Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, at Locust Ridge Tenn. She grew up with 12 other children. Her imaginative mind was a great way to get away from life's harsh reality. life. Before she could read or write, she composed her own music. Once she had her first guitar at the age of 8, she began to perform on radio stations in Knoxville, Tennessee. In the same year, Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. Although she was in school, she had established a name for herself within the local arena. Her goal was to to make music on a larger scale. In 1964, the day that followed her graduation from high school her family moved to Nashville. Her first charting records on Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner began looking for women to sing for his syndicated television program at approximately the same as the time. Parton became a member of Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting with RCA Records. The show ended in 1974, as her own releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were out-charting their collaborations.
