As an intelligent and attractive actress, Lucy Liu serves as a role-model for many Asian actors in Hollywood who want to succeed. After a series of appearances in television shows that were popular, she became famous after being cast on the Ally McBeal legal comedy where she portrayed Ling Woo. The new fame she gained was translated into roles that were filmed on the large screen, in Shanghai Noon, Charlie's Angels and other films. In Kill Bill Volume 1, Quentin Tarantino, she gave an outstanding performance as Japanese crime boss O-Ren Ishii.
